                                        SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION 2014
                                        INFORMATION

    INTRODUCTION:

    The Starr County Fair Association annually awards up to ten scholarships to Starr County
    graduating seniors who have distinguished themselves as Fair exhibitors, in their academic
    studies, as well as demonstrated leadership roles in their schools, communities, and the Starr
    County Fair.

    One scholarship in the amount of $2000 is awarded to the top ranking applicant, one $1500
    scholarship to second ranking applicant, and eight $1000 scholarships to worthy applicants.
    Recipients will receive their scholarship award in two payments, one half during the first college
    semester and the other half during the second college semester upon receipt of proof of college
    enrollment after the college’s census date. Instructions on how to claim scholarships will be
    provided to the recipients in the spring.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    Applicants must meet the following requirements:

    1. Will graduate from a Starr County High School in 2014.

    2. Must have exhibited projects at the Starr County Fair Association at least three of the following
    years, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014. Applicants who plan to exhibit projects in 2014 must submit a
    statement to that effect signed by the adult supervising the project(s).

    3. Must submit a current official school transcript which shall indicate that all section of the TAKS
    have been passed, grade point average, class ranking, and scores on the SAT and/or ACT.

    DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS:

    Applications must be postmarked no later than February 5, 2014. Completed applications must be
    mailed to the Starr County Fair Association, P.O. Box 841, Rio Grande City, Texas, 78582. The
    Starr County Fair Association will not accept hand delivered applications.

    JUDGING CRITERIA:

    The Starr County Fair Association Scholarship Committee uses the following criteria and point
    values to evaluate each application:

    CATEGORY POINT VALUE

    Academics and Essay 35

    Fair Projects 35

    Honors and Awards 10

    Leadership Activities 10

    Community Involvement 10

    TOTAL POINTS 100

    Important: A minimum score of 70 points is needed to be considered for a scholarship.

International Bank of Commerce will sponsor a reception honoring the 2014
Starr County Youth Fair Queen, scholarship winners, and Logo Contest winner, as well as
buyers, directors, and volunteers.

This annual dinner is a major event of the fair, recognizing those that help make the fair what it is,
a time to recognize youth and those who support their success.  This year’s dinner is
set for Tuesday, February 1
8, at 6:00 at IBC in Rio Grande City.
